Diary of a Renovation: Townhouse Upgrade Week 2

I wish I can say we made a lot of progress this week, but that would not be the case.  Unfortunately, my contractor has had personal issues to attend to which has put us behind schedule...arrghh!If you missed our Week 1 progress report, read about it here. Here's what we were able to accomplish in Week 2:The hardwood flooring installation continued...Garcia flooring install in kitchenHere's a sneak peek at what the flooring looks like installed...pretty sharp eh?  The main floor is completed...next up are the stairs.Garcia flooring installed at top of stairsWe opted for nice beefy 5-1/4" tall baseboards...doesn't it look nice?  With the combination of the dark wood flooring, light gray walls and the tall baseboards, even their existing shutters look better!Garcia baseboardsI can't wait for the fireplace to get built out, but here's a quick look at the installed hearth tile.Garcia hearth tile installedThe upper cabinet and microwave hood has been removed and as soon as the mosaic tile is installed, that's where the chimney hood will be installed. Garcia placement of chimney hoodOur new appliances got installed this week.  The stainless steel looks great, but of course nothing is ever seamless.  The freestanding range and dishwasher was installed easily but our new french door fridge did not work out so well. It turned out that the 36"W did not include the door swing which was not possible on the left side due to a fixed wall.  Luckily, the delivery guys are professionals and noticed this problem before dragging that heavy appliance up the stairs.  So...back-up plan was automatically in play.  I speed dialed my appliance guy and had him research smaller options.  Good news is we'll be going with a 32"W french door fridge.  Bad news is it's not available for 2 weeks, but they still have their old fridge to use so it's not so bad. Here's a pic of the appliance delivery guys moving out the old stove.  I've never really paid attention to appliance deliveries nor am I usually at the job site when it happens, but I thought the use of straps was pretty interesting.  Sure is easier than trying to grip the sides of the bulky appliance.Garcia appliances moved outI'm hoping for a lot more progress next week.  I worked really hard to have all the materials on site for the contractors to install and it's disappointing to not hit the construction schedule as planned, but life happens...just gotta roll with the punches.Stay tuned for Week 3's Progress Report!Al sig (2)
