Red Carpet Design Inspiration for Your Home: 2014 Oscars

Last night was the grand finale to the Awards Season.  Truth be told, I haven't had the opportunity to see the movies that were nominated, but I'm definitely interested in watching them as soon as they hit Netflix.  I'm especially interested in seeing the set design for the Great Gatsby, who won the Oscar for Best Production Design and of course, American Hustle (Nominee).Since Interior Design often takes cues from fashion, I wanted to show how home interiors can reflect style that is seen on the Red Carpet.  I chose a few of my favorite looks of the evening...let's see if we're in agreement.Welcome to the 2014 Oscars Red Carpet Design Inspiration for Your Home!I had a lot of fun researching interior pics for you and created a 2014 Academy Awards/Oscar Style board on Pinterest if you're interested in following it.

First up, Amy Adams in a Gucci gown and Tiffany & Co. jewelry.  I must say, I was a little surprised at the simplicity of her choice but I do love that her look is simple but very polished.  The blue looks great with her skin and hair color.  The room I chose is reflective of that very simple but polished look as well.  I love the moodiness of the blue walls and trim with matching drapes which allows the light colored couches to really stand out.  The furnishings all have very clean lines including the sleek, gold coffee table with just a touch of ornateness in the the gold mirror above the mantel.

Next we have Cate Blanchett in Armani and Chopard earrings.  So sophisticated and regal.  She kept her accessories very simple since the gown itself already has embellishments.  The nude color is a popular palette for interiors as well.  The key to keeping a neutral room interesting is to layer in textures as seen in the room below.  Everything from the woven window treatments, to the nailhead around the headboard, the sparkle from the decorative pillows and morrocan wedding blanket duvet and the flokati rug make this monochromatic room anything but boring.

My absolute favorite look of the night had to be Charlize Theron in a black, satin duchesse Dior gown and Harry Winston jewels.  Not only is Charlize beyond gorgeous, but the gown is just STUNNING! I love the structure, the shape and the beautiful drop necklace. Keeping it simple seems to be the running theme which is what the bedroom below also offers.  Black and white interiors are so glamorous and this one is no exception.  I love the clean lines of the furniture and accessories with just enough curves seen in the trellis pattern in the wallpaper, the pattern in the rug and the soft curves on the chair.  The mirror and the studded side table add the sparkle and shine to contrast against the classic color palette.

My second favorite look of the night was Kate Hudson in Versace and Neil Lane Jewelry.  She looks exquisite! I love the deep plunge which she can totally pull off (I couldn't) and the cape and the draping around her hips is so feminine and chic.  It just sparkles, much like the coordinating inspiration rooms which have very luxe color palettes in champagne hues.  The top room boasts high quality upholstery fabric with studded frames and the murano glass and lucite heightens the femininity and sophistication.  Similarly, the stone on the fireplace wall in the room below has just the right mix of colors and movement and the polished nickel or chrome details really pop off the light fixtures.   These are definitely adult spaces, but oh so lovely!

Here's Kristin Chenoweth in an art deco inspired Roberto Cavalli gown and Neil Lane jewels.  I definitely think she had the most interesting gown of everyone's.  The detail and the structure is so pretty and it fit her so well considering she's a tiny little thing. I love her hair too.  She looks like she should be on the set of a modern day Great Gatsby.  Again, you always associate gold with luxury and the bedroom below is a great example with the quilted headboard (which mimics the pattern on her skirt) and the modern light fixtures.  I also love the detail in the ceiling moulding in the second picture and the brass geometric stair rails...art deco at its finest!

Congratulations to Lupita Nyong'o for winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.  Her gown is by Prada and her gold headband and jewelry is by Fred Leighton.  She has been praised for her red carpet choices this season and it is well deserved.  She can carry color like most cannot.  She's been wearing almost every color under the rainbow...so fun!  The turquoise blue paired with gold is such a beautiful color combination as seen in the dining room below.  I especially love the gold ceilings and the combination of the patterned wallpaper paired with just the right amount of solid gold and solid turquoise and white pieces which makes it very elegant!

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.  I love Sandra! I think she's so real and seems to look better with age.  She is the epitome of effortless chic and looks flawless in this fitted yet flowy gown.  Again, the accessories are minimal with a pair of earrings and a bracelet.  This was the look I had the most difficult time pairing a room with until I saw this one.  I was specifically looking for a blue couch and this one sets the stage.  I love the tufting which softens the straight lines and pairing it with the rounded club chairs also softens the otherwise boxy lines that can read more masculine.  The lamp bases and the coffee table add the bling that the jewels Sandra wore also did.

Let's not forget about the men.  They're red carpet stars too! Here we have Matthew McConaughey (loved his acceptance speech by the way) looking dapper in his white tuxedo jacket and black pants by Dolce & Gabbana.  I'm so glad he's gaining weight because it was a little scary how much weight he'd lost for the sake of the movie.  I prefer the hunkier Matthew.  The Chicago loft in this inspiration photo is a perfect Bachelor pad outfitted similarly to Matthew.  The light couches against the dark framed windows and furnishings make for a very clean, masculine aesthetic.

And of course, Leonardo Dicaprio in a classic black tux.  It's hard for guys to compete with women on the Red Carpet but he always seems to hold his own.  The living room in his coordinating inspiration space is also very classic and timeless with clean lines and high style.  Too bad most men don't live like this...something to aspire to guys!
