What's Trending Now: Patterned Stair Runners

Around Christmas time, my sister had asked if I could babysit her house during the carpet installation on her stairs.  She had one chance to get it installed before the holiday and she was headed out of town to visit with her in-laws.  Being the fabulous sister that I am, I obliged.  To my surprise (and delight) she chose to replace the old carpet with one that has a geometric pattern.  This not only created a more contemporary look which is a nice contrast to the more traditional details in her new home, but it also added a lot of visual interest to the space. Here's what she started with...typical right? Nothing exciting...kinda boring actually!Yvette Stairs BeforeI figured it's a few stairs, how long would it take? 2, may 3 hours? Ha! You'll never guess how long it took to install this carpet.Granted, there was one guy flying solo.  He removed all the old carpet and replaced the old padding and tack strips with new ones...

And I understand there is a pattern repeat so it would take a little longer than a plain carpet, but it took about 9 hours to complete this installation...9 hours!  Crazy right?

Here's the result...

Yvette Stairs After

Here's a side by side comparison of BEFORE and AFTER...looking good!

IMG_9739Graphic patterns and geometrics are a big trend in design and home decor right now.  You see it in area rugs, decorative pillows and wallpaper.  Another way to incorporate this into your home is on your stairs.  A patterned stair runner or carpeted staircase is a big trend that can literally make your heart skip a beat.  Some of the patterns are definitely not for the faint of heart and not everyone has the guts to do it, but those who do, reap great rewards.  Take a look at some of these for inspiration... from subtle geometrics to bolder animal prints, there are plenty of choices.  Can you guess which one is my favorite?

Graphic Stairs

If you guessed the bottom left hand corner, you are correct.  I L-O-V-E me some leopard and I think a leopard stair is not only visually interesting, but very chic and sophisticated.  One day...

How bold are you?  Would you ever consider putting a graphic pattern on your stairs?  Just imagine how exciting it would be to walk up and down a fun pattern versus a plain boring staircase every day.  These subtle differences in your environment have a huge impact on how you feel...I dare you to try it!

Thanks for stopping by...see you again soon!
