Diary of a Renovation: Week 2 Construction

I was very excited with the progress we made in Week 1 and expected just as much in Week 2 despite the holiday. 4th of July was on Thursday, but the construction team was on site all the other 4 days. We even got super lucky and was able to get an inspection appointment for Wednesday before the holiday due to a cancellation...otherwise, another appointment wouldn't be available until the following Thursday! So...work on the fireplace got started. We're cladding the front of it with stacked stone and adding a wooden mantel made of reclaimed wood. First things first, we had to level out the brick surface.
We started with these inspiration photos (all photos courtesy of Houzz.com)
The homeowner's only planned to have one TV in the entire house and it's an important feature to their lifestyle (husband is a HUGE sports fan!). Installing on top of the fireplace was the most logical spot and made the most sense for furniture placement. He decided on a 55" flat screen with a speaker system attachment right below it. This will basically take up all the real estate above the mantel...every TV lovers dream!! To ensure that we had everything mapped out for electrical needs and the final product to be aesthetically pleasing, I walked through the placement with the contractor several times. Here we are in process...
Unfortunately, the contractor was not ready for the rough-in inspection on Wednesday and had to push it. Well, as I mentioned earlier, they didn't have another appointment until the following Thursday...bummer! I wasn't too happy about that. That puts us nearly a week behind schedule because you can't close up the walls without the sign-off on the rough-in inspection and you can't tile without drywall, etc. See the domino effect one little thing has on everything else? Stay tuned to see where we are in Week 3 and how I'm going to make sure we don't fall behind schedule again!
