Welcome Back to the A-Z Home Decor Trend Guide 2014.Thanks for joining me as I continue revealing 26 of the hottest home decor trends currently heating up the market, design blogs, and the internet. Today's home decor trend starts with the letter D for...Dressing Rooms! This one will catch the attention of all you ladies out there and just so you know,  I'm not here to talk with you about celebrity closets or those big, fancy dream closets that are totally out of reach.  I am talking about real life spaces that is totally achievable.  Whether you have a spare room that can be put to better use than just existing as a neglected guest bedroom or if you want to take your current closet situation to another level...dressing rooms are all the rage! My daughter and I have plans for us to have a similar space in our future.  I mean, that's the perk of having a bachelorette pad... it just seems like a given right? Here are some examples of real dressing rooms of real people... (all images via my pinterest page)

Here's a video tour of the dressing room closet pictured above...what a lucky girl to have such a fantastic girly space designed by her even more fantastic Interior Design mom, Rebecca Robeson!

As you can see from these examples, there are a few key elements for a truly fabulous dressing room:

  • Lots of organized storage

  • Seating

  • Full length mirror

  • Decorative lighting

  • and LOTS of personality!

Let's explore each of these more in depth starting with storage...I mean who wouldn't want to be able to display all their pretty shoes?

and space for long and short hang...these examples can all be recreated from cost efficient resources like IKEA, your local home improvement store, and if you're handy, you can even fabricate your own.

Seating makes the space seem so much more luxurious and glamorous and can be in the form of a couch, chaise, ottoman, bench or if you have the room, a vanity area so that you can enjoy some real girly time with your make-up...how fun is that?!

What dressing room is complete without a full-length mirror? I mean you gotta make sure you're looking fly from head to toe before heading out the door...

Proper lighting is also important. Although they're not my personal favorite, many opt for track lighting so that they can direct light at specific areas. This is also an ideal space for adding decorative lighting like a fabulous, feminine chandelier (now that's more my speed).

And finally, you've got to inject your personality into this space. It should ooze "you...to da max!" This can be achieved with personal photos, beautiful drapes, and chic rugs, but the real stars are of course, all your clothes, shoes, purses and accessories. A great way to show off your personality is the way you merchandise your accessories. There are no rules here...anything can be used from wine racks, wine bottles, pretty dishes, and hooks are good options. This where your creativity comes into play. Here are some examples for inspiration.

Wasn't this a fun trend to cover? Do you have an extra space that you can turn into a dressing room? or how about upgrading and maximizing your current closet space? Consider incorporating a fun space like these into your home. I'm positive that being able to get ready in such a personal environment would not only be a lot of fun but it would make starting each day so empowering. If you are lucky enough to already have a space like this, I'd love to see it.
