A-Z HOME DECOR TREND 2014: ETAGERES

Welcome Back to the A-Z Home Decor Trend Guide 2014.I'm revealing more of the hottest home decor trends currently heating up the market, design blogs, and the internet. Today's home decor trend starts with the letter E for...Etageres!

é·ta·gère [ey-tah-zhair, ey-tuh-; French ey-ta-zher]nouna stand with a series of open shelves for small objects, bric-a-brac, etc.; a stand with open shelves for displaying ornaments, etc.

Etageres are the more sophisticated version of a shelf unit...I mean, doesn't everything said in French just automatically get elevated a few notches?  These are very versatile furniture pieces as it could be used in many different ways and in all types of spaces.  They come in a variety of styles and are perfect for displaying books, collections and other tchotchkes. Here are a few examples of the different design styles available...

Do you see one that suits your design aesthetic?  I'm loving the clean look of the marble and metal ones...perfect for bathrooms!  Sure beats the cheap melamine options that we usually see right?

Here are some examples of how etageres can be used in various room applications...

How about as a room divider of sorts, to help define one space from another.  In this case, one was used to separate the dining room from the living room.  This particular etagere is also used to store and display dishes and other decorative housewares.

Here's another example of storing accessories, towels, and toiletries in a bathroom

Of course, etageres are very functional in an office setting...

And as a decorative display unit in a Living or Family Room
