The countdown continues with the A-Z Home Decor Trend Guide 2014.I've been revealing the hottest home decor trends currently heating up the market, design blogs, and the internet in 2014 and today's home decor trend starts with the letter U for...Upcycling! We've all heard of and have incorporated recycling efforts into our daily routines by now, but what about Upcycling? If you have not heard of this term, Wikipedia defines Upcycling as "the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value."Dictionary.com defines it as "to process (used goods or waste material) so as to produce something that is often better than the original". Creative Design enthusiasts around the world have been jumping on this bandwagon for years and the results can be pretty incredible ... dare I say ingenius! If you watched the Nate Berkus Show, you would be familiar with Danny Seo who wrote a book called Upcycling and appeared regularly on the show to share his various ideas and projects. He even decorated his entire home using this design principle! Another Nate Berkus Show regular was Rashon Carraway, aka Mr. Goodwill Hunting who is well known for shopping the Goodwill stores and refurbishing old furniture and accessories and basically upcycling them into gems that he used to decorate various spaces. Not all upcycling projects are everyone's cup of tea, myself included, but I can admire their ingenuity, creativity and talent. Here are a few projects that I thought were very interesting...How about a chest that's been painted and decoupaged with vintage book covers...

I'm always amazed at furniture makeovers...can you even believe it's the same dresser below? It looks incredible! Personally I would have added antiqued mirror or smoked mirrors, but I love the concept nonetheless!

Now this overcoat upholstered chair is just too clever...what a conversation piece indeed!

You may have seen utensils upcycled into different projects like chandeliers and I've seen interesting booths at Art & Wine Festivals selling this as an art form. I think this upcycled fork rack is pretty interesting.

You may have seen similar type upcycled liquor bottle lighting in my previous post on upcycling home decor ...here's another example that I think is very clever.

Have you upcycled furniture and decor in your home?
