I was out of town last week and did not have internet access so you get a double whammy this week! ;)If you missed the first 3 weeks...catch up here: WEEK 1 / WEEK 2 / WEEK 3The main thing that happened in Week 4 was the installation of the new quartz countertop, sink, and faucet. That combined with the painted vanity made a big difference in modernizing this space . I love the larger rectangular sink and have already broken it in hand washing my daughter's gymnastics competition leotard and jacket. The high contrast between the white countertop and the black faucet is incredible. Had I gone with a chrome or a brushed nickel, it would not have the same impact that the black has.
The installers had some challenges with connecting the faucet and had to change out some of the parts but it's working great now. Side note, they spent way more time than I expected them to and I'm sure, they weren't planning on hanging out an additional 4-6 hours over 2 days either. Let's just say, the air was not very fresh by the time they left and so I had to eliminate the odors that lingered by using my trusty Bad Air Sponge. I LOVE this product and HIGHLY recommend it. I'll be sharing more about this product in my Friday Faves so look for that feature on Friday! It also came in extremely handy to help absorb the vinyl smell from the wallpaper. The powder room is an interior room with no windows so it takes longer to air out. I used the Bad Air Sponge and since it's across from the kitchen, I kept the kitchen window open overnight so that the air could clear and I was so happy that the combination of efforts worked!
The highlight of Week 5 is of course, the installation of the tropical wallpaper. I was soo relieved to see the paper in person. My biggest concern was that the colors were not going to be as vibrant as in the photos and I was pleasantly surprised. It is beautiful and I am very impressed with the quality. The wallpaper vendor was very easy to work with. I sent them my room dimensions and they customized the pieces to be wider (so there would be less seams) and ensured that I had just enough to cover the room.
I had originally wanted to purchase a towel ring and TP holder in a matte black finish but decided to re-purpose what I had to save some money. I had an extra chrome TP holder and purchased an inexpensive brushed nickel towel ring and spray painted it with glossy black paint. I also decided to keep the existing light fixture and just spray paint the brushed nickel hardware as well.
They turned out great. I'm hoping they'll withstand the wear and tear from regular use...we shall see. I didn't want the hardware to stand out. I preferred it to just blend into the wallpaper. I really want the wallpaper to be the star of this space.
I also relined the drawers and shelves with a metallic gold pineapple wrapping paper that I found at Home Goods. I cut the paper to size and used double stick tape to keep it in place. Just a nice little touch when you open up the cabinets. I mostly keep cleaning supplies and extra toilet paper in this cabinet but it's a nicer greeting than before. ;)I was planning on adding knobs to the doors and drawers, but I'm kind of liking the plain black rather than having something stand out. Again, the star is the wallpaper.
I've cleaned up the bathroom and started installing the photo canvas art. I used these 3M Command Damage-Free Hanging strips. These work great since the canvas are fairly lightweight. I removed the hanging hook that was attached so that the canvas can lay flat against the wall. I put a hanging strip on the top right and left corner and in the center of the top and bottom. I love how that the hanging strips eliminated the need for poking holes in the wallpaper and the walls should I want to change out the art at a later date.
We are sooo close to being done. Just a little decorating to finish up the space. I love how it looks already. See you again next week for the BIG REVEAL and all the before and afters!
